Crystal Grottoes is in Maryland is located in a former limestone quarry. Crystal Grottoes is the only commercial cave in Maryland and is also one of the largest caves in the state.

The tour starts with a stair going down 3 meters into the entrance room. After a narrow passage the path goes down 2 more meters to the main cave passage then follows a fissure-like passage 15 to 20m high and between 1.50m’s and 2m’s wide. This main passage is lined by speleothems and is incredibly beautiful. Also present are many stalactites, stalagmites, pillars and curtains, almost white or with some fawn tints.

The largest room is called Blanket Room. It is full of mineral curtains, sometimes called “bacon rinds” or “blankets”. The Golden Lake is a small pool fed by dripping water and marks the end of the speleothem-rich Maryland cave.
