Sugarloaf USA is Maine's biggest ski mountain!

With a continuous, one-mountain vertical drop of 2,820 feet, the longest in the East, and a summit elevation of 4,237 feet, Sugarloaf USA boasts of more than 54 miles of trails ranging from novice to expert-only.

One hundred thirty three trails traverse Sugarloaf USA's 1,400 skiable acres, including three trails more than three miles long, three terrain parks and 2 half-pipes.

Sugarloaf USA's 4,237-foot summit is served by a high-capacity quad, and the rest of the mountain is well-serviced by 2 high-speed super-quads and 1 high-capacity quad chair, a triple and eight double chairs, and one surface lift.

Snowmaking covers trails in all 15 lift areas. Grooming is performed nightly by 12 Bombardier machines, which cover a distance equivalent to the distance between Portland, Maine, and Chicago on a given night.

Sugarloaf/USA Perfect Turn Ski and Snowboard School is consistently ranked as the best eastern school and offers more than 50 full-time and 100 part-time PSIA-certified instructors and a variety of unique programs all consistent with the American teaching method.

Special workshops on technique improvement, powder and bump skiing, telemarking and snowboarding are routinely held.

The Sugarloaf Outdoor Center is the largest in Maine, offering 105 kilometers of groomed, tracked trails and a 6,000 square foot solar-heated lodge.

Sugarloaf USA's western-style atmosphere comes from its village area, consisting of 10 alpine shops and 18 on-mountain eateries.

From Bangor and the Maritimes:

From Calais take Route 9 west to Bangor, Interstate 95 south to Newport, Route 2 west to Skowhegan.Route 201 north to Route 148 west through Madison to Route 201A � north to North Anson. Route 16 west to Kingfield. Route 27 north to Sugarloaf/USA.

Alternate route to Sugarloaf USA:

From Montreal, Canada and the West:

Head east to Sherbrooke to end of Route 10. Take 112 east to Route 253 south to Cookshire. Turn left onto Route 108 to Route 212 east through La Patrie to Woburn Take 161 south to U.S. border. From there it is 58 kilometers on Route 27 to Sugarloaf/USA. Approximate travel time is 3-3/4 hours from Montreal or 1-1/2 � hours from Sherbrooke.


From Portland and Points South

Take the Main Turnpike from Portland to the Auburn exit 12. Follow Route 4 north through Farmington. Pick up Route 27 north and proceed through Kingfield to Sugarloaf/USA. Approximate travel time is 2-1/4 hours from Portland.
