Some of the most exciting scenery in eastern Maine is found along Route 1, which runs for eight miles just outside the Canadian border. The Byway climbs the slopes of Peekaboo Mountain, affording a spectacular view of Grand Lake and the western mountains. This short stretch packs in more gorgeous vistas than you can shake a stick at. It may be Maine's most attractive stretch of road.
