 Moosehead
Lake is a kind aquatic jewel with islands like facets as far as the
eye can see, set in a scenic ring of Maine mountains against a green
velvet cloth made of the state’s vast, forested wilderness. Moosehead
Lake is located a mere 1 ½ hours away from Bangor and just 3
hours from Portland, and has the distinction of being the largest lake
east of the Mississippi that is contained entirely within one state.
Moosehead Lake has long been a treasured secret known only to Maine
families, hard-core outdoor sportsmen and a few tight-lipped downhill
skiers, but is steadily becoming a favorite destination for eco-tourists
and nature lovers. Visitors from around the world are finding that the
Moosehead Lake Region is a perfect place to kayak, canoe, fish, take
a relaxing trip on the historic steamship Katahdin or shoot the rapids
on 1st rate whitewater Maine rafting rivers.
