Bangor Maine is a small, cozy New England city named
after and Irish hymn and most famous for being the home of the University
of Maine and novelist Stephen King.
It’s a relatively quiet and attractive city with a developing
waterfront district and a historic yet active downtown.
The University of Maine provides the major athletic and cultural attractions
to the city, like the University of Maine’s Museum of Art. There
are a number of other cultural attractions however, like the Bangor
Symphony Orchestra and the classic and contemporary dramatic performances
at the Penobscott Theater. The Maine Discovery Museum is New England’s
2nd largest children’s museum.
Bangor has 30 parks to enjoy, including the lovely Cascade Park, where
visitors can picnic near fall or fountains. The City Forest is 650 acres
and contains 5 miles of hiking, biking and cross-country trails.
The great timberland north of Bangor affords outdoor adventures a chance
to hike, camp and hunt for big game, like moose and dear. Anglers can
catch and release all year round in the Penobscott River.
Augusta Maine is the state capital. It’s a very small city with
a rich history. Visitors to the Bangor area may want to take the time
to go to Augusta and see the State House and the Maine State Museum.
