Sunrise over Calcasieu Lake
Calcasieu Lake is located in southwest Louisiana, 3 ½ hours south of Shreveport and 3 hours west of New Orleans. Anglers in the know have a soft spot in their heart for this paragon of Louisiana lakes. Numerous species of game fish make their home in the Great Calcasieu Estuary (locally known as Big Lake), including the speckled trout, redfish, flounder, black drum, sand trout, sheepshead, croakers, and ladyfish. The prime fishing season starts every year in April and usually lasts through December, weather permitting. Anglers normally nab the biggest trout in the Calcasieu Lake from April through to June.

Guests at Calcasieu Lake can fish from the many local fishing piers or take a private or charted boat out on the water. There are numerous vacation rentals near Calcasieu Lake for those who want to spend a few days, some of which are very close to the lake’s shores.
