(As of the time of this writing)
While the damage to the city of New Orleans caused by hurricane Katrina
is slowly being repaired, much of the city, especially in residential
neighborhoods, remains in a state of devastation. Though some bars,
clubs, museums and businesses are again open for public use, particularly
in the historic French Quarter, visitors to the city will find their
recreation options limited. New Orleans has depended on tourism as a
part of its economy, and the people there would no doubt appreciate
the much-needed funds travelers may provide them. A better way, perhaps,
to restore New Orleans to something of its former glory would be to
give generously in time or money to a legitimate charitable organization.
National attention to the disaster in New Orleans Louisiana has waned,
but the people of this great city could still use their nation’s
help. |
