Lake Tahoe is located high in the Sierra Nevada,
and its average elevation is well above 6,000 feet. From September
through the rest of the winter storms are quite common, and even
as late as June winter storms remain possible. In short, drivers
should be sure they always have their snow-chains with them. Lake
Tahoe weather is always extremely unpredictable change quickly
from cloud-free to stormy skies alarmingly quickly. Visitors should
check the weather forecast often and be ready for any eventuality.
Naturally visitors should expect colder temperatures and heavier
snowfall at the higher elevations.
Despite the changeable and frequently severe weather Lake Tahoe
gets 250 to 300 sunny days a year on average. Summer humidity
is very low. Water temperatures range as widely as air temperatures,
from winter temperatures of 32 degrees Fahrenheit to a delightful
68 degrees in the summer. |
