Whitewater rafting near Lake Tahoe California is
some of the best in the state, thanks in no small part variety
of choices available. The area abounds with rivers with rapids
of all difficulty levels and numerous California white water rafting
outfitters.
The east fork of the Carson River is a popular rafting spot. It
is a free-flowing river with a rafting season open from April
through early June. The upper portion is faster and a bit more
challenging, with a gradient of 40 ft. per mile and rapids classed
II to III.
The middle fork of the American River white water rafting route
starts at the Oxbow Reservoir. It does not lack for excitement
and is quite challenging, with 3 class IV and 7 class III rapids
in the 1st 4 miles. It is most famous for the class IV Tunnel
Chute rapids.
The most popular rafting route in California is the south fork
of the American River. It isn’t too challenging, so the
whole family can enjoy it, and it has loads of character, with
spots like Gorilla Rock, Satan’s Cesspool and Hospital Bar.
It can get crowded, though.
