There are campgrounds around Lake Tahoe to accommodate virtually
any type of camping trip, whether it’s wilderness camping
in Lake Tahoe area that one is searching for or Lake Tahoe campgrounds
with full RV hook-ups. Here are jus a few examples.
The D. L. Bliss California State Park covers 1,850 acres in the
Sierra Nevada Mountains and 6 miles of Lake Tahoe shoreline. It
can accommodate both tents and RV’s, and though there are
no hook-ups showers and flush toilets are available.
The Emerald Bay State Park is for boat camping only. Campers either
sleep on their boats or on designated lakeside sites. The park
is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The park also features
tours of the Scandinavian styled Vikingholm mansion.
When it comes to RV camping in south Lake Tahoe there are lots
of spots to choose from. Coachland RV Park has 131 RV sites with
full hookups, including cable TV. Coachland caters to Lake Tahoe’s
senior travelers.
For those who want to really rough it there’s always the
backcountry of the Desolation Wilderness Area. Campers here should
be sure to obtain a permit, and be prepared to follow all the
U.S. Forest Service camping guidelines.
