Every Corvette in the world is produced in Bowling Green
Kentucky, and if you don’t believe it you can tour the Bowling
Green Assembly Plant and see for yourself. But if you think that’s
all Bowling Green has to offer its visitors, then you’d be quite,
quite wrong. For example, sticking to the automotive theme, you can
drive the scenic Duncan Hines Scenic Byway, which begins at the author’s
home in Bowling Green and continues for 82 miles past historical cemeteries,
Civil War battle-sites, an antique train depot and more. Race World
offers replica’s of NASCAR drivers cars, a 360% racing simulator
and the actual car Dale Earnhardt was driving when he got his famous
flat at the Daytona 500 with only ½ a lap to go to win.
Outdoor adventure abounds both around and below Bowling Green Kentucky.
Lost River Cave (www.lostrivercave.com) is a fascinating natural wonder
that allows visitors to take a boat trip into the mouth of the cave
and travel the Lost River for miles under the city. There are also 2
miles of walking trails above the cave and the lovely butterfly gardens
to enjoy. Cave Springs Cavern is an equally interesting site, featuring
deep pit rooms, cascades and the underground Blue Hole Lake, where the
blind cave fish dwell. The cave was sacred to Native Americans, and
some of the petroglyphs inside date back to 30 B.C.E. or older. Guests
can even stay nearby at Cavern Spring Farm Bed & Breakfast (call
(270) 563-5863 for reservations).
The Bowling Green KOA RV Park has 120 campsites,
full RV hook-ups, a pool, cabins, fishing and your pets are very welcome.
