The Smoky Hill River in Kansas is a 560-mile river that
has its origins in the high plains of eastern Colorado where it flows
to the east into Kansas. This Kansas river’s 2 main tributaries
are the North and South forks, which join near Russel Springs Kansas.
From there, the Smokey Hill River flows in a generally eastward direction
through central Kansas before it joins the Republican River at Junction
City Kansas to form the Kansas River.
Kansas towns along the Smokey Hill River include Junction City, Salina
and Abeline.
2 dams, namely the Kanopolis and the Cedar Bluff, are used for irrigation
and flood control. |
