Hiking the
Waterdog Lakes Trail No. 1417:
The lower lake is relatively small with few fish but the upper lake is great for brooktrout. Wildflowers are abundant during July and August. Use caution when crossing the highway to the trailhead. Camping is permitted but your camp must be setup at least 100 feet from the lakes. Pack out your trash and enjoy your hike!

Travel Information
Trailhead Directions: From Poncha Springs, CO take US Highway 50 west, traveling towards Monarch Pass. Stay on Hwy 50 for approximately 13.5 miles. You will pass the Monarch Mountain Lodge located on the left side of the highway. From there, continue traveling for 2.5 miles. The parking area is a small highway pullout located on the left side of the road. The trailhead is located on the opposite side of the highway and is difficult to see at highway speed. A small brown sign marks the start of the trail.
