Hiking the Rainbow Trail - Silver Creek to Mears Junction:

The Rainbow Trail travels northeast from the junction and stays to the south of FDR 201. The trail meanders through aspen groves and stands of Douglas fir. This trail is popular with a variety of users. Expect and respect other users!

The Silver Creek trail (#1407) continues west to the Continental Divide. Motorcycles are not permitted on this trail.

Travel Information
Trailhead Directions:

From Poncha Springs, CO travel south on Hwy 285 for approximately 4.5 miles. Turn right onto County Road 200 and travel south for 2 miles to FDR 201. Continue on FDR 201 for about 5 miles, passing through private property (Silver Creek Lakes). The road beyond the private property requires 4-wheel drive. The Rainbow Trail adjoins the road at the intersection of FDR 201 and FDR 869.2. The road continues south and descends into Toll Road Gulch. This is a 4-wheel drive road and should only by attempted by experienced drivers.
