Lawrence may well be the nicest city in Kansas. Lawrence was founded in 1854 by abolitionists and remains a progressive city today, thanks in large part to the intellectual atmosphere engendered by the presence of the University of Kansas.

There are some good cultural venues to explore in Lawrence Kansas. The Spencer Museum of Art displays art from around the world, but is particularly well known for its collection of Asian Ceramics. The University of Kansas (called KU, confusingly enough) is the home of the National History Museum, featuring realistic displays of various kinds of wildlife and Annabelle, a 140 million year old, 50-foot long fossil of a Camarasaur.

The League of American Bicyclists named Lawrence Kansas a “Bicycle Friendly City”, and so it is. And so it is. There are trail to ride along the Kansas River and at Clinton Lake, and miles upon miles of scenic trails in Lawrence’s 50+ city parks.

Speaking of Clinton Lake, what a great place to have a few outdoors adventures! Clinton Lake is only 3 miles southwest of Lawrence, and provides beaches for swimming, RV hook-ups, overnight campgrounds and picnic areas. The boat-ramps at the Clinton Marina are the gateway to 7,000 surface acres on which to enjoy what Boating World magazine called “1 of the 50 best boating lakes”. The fishing is great to; Crappie, Walleye and Largemouth Bass are only a few of the fish in this lake. There are numerous hiking and biking trails near Clinton Lake, as well as 9,000 acres of public hunting ground full of Deer, Turkey and Quail.
