Lake Afton Park is spread out on 720-acres southwest of Wichita in Kansas. Located in the park is the 258-acre lake offering a wide variety of activities for family as well as the more serious minded adventurist. Boating, water skiing, camping, fishing and picnics are some of the activities that are enjoyed at Lake Afton.
Facilities at the park include six shelter houses plus many large and small open shelters, five modern restrooms and showers, a boat ramp, three fishing docks, three swimming areas and two playgrounds. In addition the grocery and bait store are useful conveniences located in the park itself.

Other activities and events at Lake Afton include an outdoor public shooting range, go-cart races, jet ski races, antique car shows and fishing contests. Lake Afton is also home to national drag boat races, and state and national boating events. Twenty minutes southwest of Wichita, Lake Afton offers it all - fishing, boating, swimming, camping and more. The ESPN-sponsored Boat Race takes place in mid-September.
You have your regular camping facilities at Lake Afton. Open shelters with and without electrical outlets, there is primitive camping available at many locations. 16 sites have water hook-ups available at an extra nominal charge. Boating and skiing are permitted from sun-up to sun-down. Although no tubes or jet-skies are allowed. Also you need to obtain the boat permit prior to putting the boat in the water.
Lake Afton is a paradise for anglers. Many species of fish abound here. You have game fish of several varieties - channel catfish, flathead catfish, white and black crappie, sunfishes, bluegill, largemouth bass, black bullhead and walleye among others. Add to this all the fun of a beach right there in the middle of the park.
