Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad

With only about twenty-two miles of operating track, the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad is a testament to days gone by. The “Iowan,” the world’s last mass-produced steam engine, chugs along the beautiful Des Moines River valley over two majestic bridges and acres of beautifully wooded land. Renovations continue on this successful tourist spot. Newly renovated engines and cars plus a completely redone train depot will soon adorn the track.

Whether you’re interested in the memorable dinner and dessert line or a powerful, scenic cruise, you won’t be disappointed. Visit the museum after exiting the cab for further insight into Iowa railway history. Or visit the renovation sites for a behind-the-scenes take on the construction and operation of the steam engine.
