Amana Colonies

This historic settlement is still largely preserved for the sake of incoming tourists. Once a religious settlement for Germans who bought and colonized 26,000 acres of land, the area is what remains of six communities and centuries of self-sufficient living.

This area was once home to one of the longest surviving towns focused on communal living. Everyone in the settlement had a role and everyone shared what he/she had in order to survive. Visitors can take tours of the newly renovated shops and houses to understand the efficiency and selflessness of such a place.

The colonies offer a wide variety of accommodations and tours for groups of all sizes.
