Iowa’s Lake Odessa is found
in the Mark Twain Wildife Refuge in Louisa County. It is a 2,000-acre
flooded bottomland lake, most of which is less than 6 feet deep.
The Iowa DNR manages the lake as a haven for waterfowl. Lake Odessa
is drawn down 2 feet during the summer to aid in the growth of
aquatic vegetation important to the lake’s ecosystem.
Lake Odessa is home to a variety of fish species common to Iowa
lakes, including bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass and channel
catfish. Northern pike, walleye, white bass, bullhead and carp
are also present. Fallen trees are the major fish habitat found
here, and the lake has numerous stump fields. Several islands
and shallow bays are also found on the lake.
Anglers and recreational boaters can find cement boat ramps at
the Schaffer's and Sand Run landings. Parking for shore anglers
is available at the inlet area. |
