Spook Cave in Iowa is the source of a tributary to Bloody Run Creek. The first settler to explore this Iowa cave was Gerald Mielke. He blasted out an opening and found an underground river.
The tours are done entirely via boat, a lock and dam at the opening of the cave control the level of the water. The aluminum boats have electric motors, which makes the tour a silent and effortless glide through Spook Cave.
Spook Cave claims to be America's longest underground boat tour. It may be that it is the underground boat tour with the lowest ceiling: the visitors to this Iowa vacation destination have to duck into the boat at some points of the tour.
