Spirit Lake town and Spirit Lake lake are in Dickinson County, Iowa. Spirit Lake is a natural body of water with 5,684 acres of water surface. Its part of the chain of the Iowa Great Lakes and is the largest natural lake in Iowa. Spirit Lake is actually in the center of the Iowa Great Lakes.
The city provides complete recreational facilities for all sorts of water based amusement. You can enjoy local camping, hiking, backpacking, lakes, beaches, whitewater, skiing and snowboarding. With maximum depths up to 24 feet and a mean depth of 17 feet, the lake contains over 40 species of fish. The fishery on the lake provides significant populations of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, muskie, crappie, and bluegill among others.

In the summers you'll enjoy the warm waters down along Spirit Lake. One of the most beautiful beaches in the area is on the north shore of Spirit Lake, that overlooks the entire lake from a long stretch of golden sand.
