The tragic site of this Indiana state park has seen vast,
proud Native American settlements, a vicious battle in 1808, and most
recently, little human interaction at all. After banding together to
protect the land they had respected and cared for over thousands of
years, Tecumseh and various tribes from the region were driven out in
the midst of a preemptive strike. After survivors retreated back through
a series of streams and marshes, their villages were burned to the ground.
Today, biking, hiking and quaint picnic sites are available at Prophetstown
State Park. The overgrown land has few traces of generations gone past. |
