Scenic hardwood forest. Trail passes through an early 19th century free African American settlement; only a family cemetery and the traces of home sites remain.

Camping and Backpacking Opportunities: Parking is available at the trailhead and limited parking at the gate on Grease Gravy Road. Do not camp at the trailhead, however camping is permitted in back-country areas. Pack out your trash.

Trailhead Directions: From Paoli's Town Square: Follow IN 37 for 5.3 miles to county road 450 South, a sign for Marengo Cave marks the intersection. Turn left onto County Road 450 South, and follow it for one mile to the Lick Creek parking area. Turn left into the parking area and trailhead.
