Overlooking the Ohio River on the Illinois side, these
caves are overrun with mystery and legends of near-mythical proportions.
Rumor has it that one of Washington’s ex-soldiers set up a makeshift
pub here as a front to rob and kill wayward travelers. Of course, the
caves now exist as empty holes in the side of bluffs, full of whatever
spirits and past your imagination can drum up.
As for the park, it has all the amenities of a thorough state facility
such as boating and a modern marina, camping, grills for picnicking,
an onsite restaurant and lodge and more. Visit this plot of 200 acres
for some rugged American folklore. |
