This four-block plot will soon appear just as it did
in 1861, when this nation’s sixteenth president bid the town of
Springfield farewell. It has been authorized for more thorough reconstruction
and restoration. Until then, there continue to be thorough, guided tours,
pleasant strolls through historic Springfield, and a rich aura of history.
Five people were lovingly crammed into this modest, two story cottage,
until the Lincolns permanently left for Washington. They adored Springfield,
as apparent in Abraham’s emotional farewell speech. Don’t forget to stop by the visitors center for your free ticket,
a service which was requested by Robert, the last surviving member of
the family. |
