Running alongside the epic American Discovery Trail is
this relatively new jaunt which bridges the gap between two great rivers:
the Mississippi and the Ohio. The scenery and inhabitants in this region
(the Shawnee National Forest) are quite wild and diverse, but nothing
that would hinder a pleasant stroll. If you don’t mind seeing
graceful animals in their natural setting, you’ll have no problem.
It is a challenging 160 miles, any way you slice it. Those who wish
to camp and hike its entire length should expect it to take about two
weeks.
The thorough foliage and abundant wildlife are astounding here. Illinois
was wise to finally make this east west journey possible. |
