This is a bike-specific trail that spans the entire length
of the Mississippi in the United States. All along the trail, there
is rich history and beautiful natural settings, depending on your preference.
The stretch that touches the eastern border Illinois is no exception.
Passing through Galena, Nauvoo, and series of well-preserved wilderness
areas, you have a variety of options. Stop and take a quick tour of
Ulysses S. Grant’s long-time home or visit the site of the Mormon
Pioneer Trail’s inception. Or set up camp in Illinois’ northern
region, untouched by glaciers and still geographically diverse. |
