The twelve-state National Trail begins in Hartford, Illinois
and follows trails that were once blazed by the westward adventurers
and their crew of forty-five. Instead of mystery and fear, the land
can now be embraced with fervor along 3,700 miles of well-established
and primitive hiking trails.
Some choose to weave along the trail in cars, while others like to rough
it out with a hike and camp out occasionally.
