The Chicago Museum Campus, near Soldier Field, is home to one
of the most impressive concentrations of educational and recreational
facilities in the United States. Indeed, there aren’t many
places anywhere where one can find 3 such world-class facilities
within walking distance of each other.
The Field Museum and the Adler Planetarium are both located in
the Museum Campus. The Field Museum houses biological and anthropological
collections totaling over 20 million specimens and a natural history
library with more than 250,000 volumes. The Alder Planetarium
is no less impressive, and features exhibits that utilize cutting
edge technology and showcase a renowned collection of historical
astronomy artifacts.
Also located at Museum Campus is the amazing Shedd Aquarium, the
world's largest indoor aquarium. Shedd is home to more than 8,000
aquatic animals representing over 700 species from all around
the world. From there visitors can take a water taxi between Museum
Campus and the Chicago Navy Pier.
