Sun
Valley Idaho is the states premiere resort destination. The 1st-class
skiing and amenities at the Sun Valley Ski Resort and the opportunities
for outdoor adventure in the natural splendor surrounding Sun Valley,
the town of Ketchum and the surrounding areas draw guests from around
the world.
Sun Valley Ski Resort provides great skiing for all skill levels. Dollar
Mountain is a kind of paradise for beginning skiers, with easy runs
and gentle slopes. Bald Mountain, on the other hand, is challenging
enough for seasoned professionals. Many consider Bald Mountain to be
the best skiing mountain in America. Given Bald Mountain’s 64
runs, 13 lifts and 3,400-ft. vertical, it’s hard to argue with
them.
Downhill skiing isn’t Sun Valley’s only claim to fame. Cross-country
skiing and snowshoeing are popular here as well, and Nordic skiing enthusiasts
can start on 25 miles of well-managed trails at the Sun Valley Nordic
Center. Hikers and Bikers have lots of options as well. Wood River Trail
meanders 20 miles through Ketchum and Sun Valley, for example, and the
5-mile loop of Fox Creek’s trail offers splendid mountain views.
Camping is available at the Meadows RV Park 2 miles south of Ketchum,
and at the nearby USFS Boundary Campground off Trail Creek Road. Those
seeking a bit of culture and nightlife in the Sun Valley/Ketchum area
needn’t worry. With art galleries, theaters, cafés, clubs
and wineries, and 80+ restaurants to choose from, there’s something
in or around Sun Valley for everyone.
The Ketchum Area Rapid Transport is a free
bus that makes daily runs from Ketchum to Sun Valley. Ernest Hemingway spent his final years
in Ketchum Idaho and is buried there.
