The City of Rocks in Idaho’s Albion RangeThe Albion Range in Idaho is one of the most interesting destinations for climbers south of the Snake River. It is the home of Cache Peak, which at 10,339 feet is the highest point in Idaho south of the Snake River, and the City of Rocks, a fascinating assortment of granite domes and spires that are considered the premier Idaho rock climbing location. These rugged Idaho mountains provide opportunities for bouldering, rock-climbing, and more.

Many experienced climbers feel this out-of-the-way place is one of the best climbing spots in the United States. Most routes are only 1 or 2 pitches in length, but there are an infinite number of routes to choose from. The range provides a wide spectrum of challenges, from cracks to chimneys to obelisk-like spires.

The spring is the best time to attempt climbing the Albion range. City of Rocks’ desert-like climate heats up long before the surrounding mountains. Memorial Day weekend sees climbers from all over, so visitors during this time can expect crowds.
