Sandpoint, like Coeur d’Alene, is one of Idaho’s
favorite outdoor adventure spots. This agreeable little resort town
is a perfect base of operations from which to explore Lake Pend Oreille
and the stunning Idaho mountain countryside.
There are endless water-sporting and recreational activities to enjoy
on, in and by Lake Pend Oreille, the largest, deepest lake in Idaho.
City Beach provides 100’s of feet of sand on Pend Oreille’s
shores for sunbathing, swimming, volleyball and general, all-purpose
frolicking. Sailboats are for rent at the Windbag Marina.
Fishing on the lake is superb, and 30+lb monster trout are not uncommon.
Lake cruises are an excellent way to see the areas wildlife, like Ospreys,
Eagles and Loons, and its worth a trip to Bernard’s Point to watch
the Mountain Goats bounding up and down the cliffs.
Nearby State Parks offer ample opportunity for camping, fishing and
hiking. Round Lake State Park is only 10 miles south of Sandpoint. Farragut
State Park has a well-developed swimming area and perfect sand beach
a Beaver Bay.
Hikers and Mountain Bikers will be in heaven in Sandpoint Idaho. There
are fantastic, professional quality biking trails to ride here. Mineral
Point is a breezy ride along the lake. Strong Creek and Schweitzer Mountain
Trails will definitely make riders break a sweat. Hikers can choose
from many trails as well. The Mineral Point Trail to Green Bay provides
beautiful views of the Green Monarchs, for example, and the Forest Service
now guides hikers to scenic Maiden Rock.
