On the south shore of Kawai, one of the least commercially
developed Hawaiian Islands, is Hawaii’s Poipu Beach, a frequent
list topper in the debate over America’s Best Beaches. Palm trees
tower over wide long stretches of sand in this flatter version of Hawaii
shoreline.
Relatively calm surf makes for great swimming and wading, and just offshore,
surfers take jabs at the moderate surf. Waves lap up right on the edges
of nearby beach rentals, where you can find rooms with marvelous views.
As unspoiled as it is becoming, Poipu is one of the best long term stays
in the island system. You’ll most likely need to pry yourself
off the perfect beach with the perfect surf in the perfect weather. |
