This awe inspiring national park shifts
from desolation among dried lava plains to tropical wonderment within
a 30,000 acre plot. Visitors are given the opportunity to trudge, climb,
and camp on pathways in the Summit and Kipahula regions.
Many rare species exist in this untampered-with land, nesting in the
canopies of nearby trees and stalking the forest’s dense floor.
Obscure, unnamed plants are in thick abundance as well. The thick vegetation
provides challenging yet worthwhile hikes within tree lined forest walls.
There are also several opportunities to get better acquainted with the
land and the people who live in the region. Interpretive programs and
cultural information are available through the park’s rangers
at a well-informed visitors center.
Whether you want to ascend the heights of an ancient volcano or gaze
at splendid sunrises and sunsets, Haleakala can provide an untouched,
