D.T. Fleming Beach Park features a classic west Maui beach that is not only one of the best Maui beaches, but one that was named "America's Best Beach" in 2006. Visitors looking for the perfect sunbathing spot, you’re on the right course with D.T. Fleming. The area also is great for swimming when the ocean is calm, and is a long-time favorite for body and board surfing when the surf rises. Amenities at D.T. Fleming Beach Park include picnic tables and restrooms.
Visitors should keep in mind that the currents here can get very strong. Inexperienced swimmers and surfers shouldn’t venture too far out. Lifeguards are normally posted during the day.
Fleming Beach Park is also a good place for Hawaii hiking. The beach is protected by two rocky headlands at Honokahua Bay. Makaluapuna Point is a lava rock peninsula jutting a quarter mile into the ocean, separating Honokahua Bay from Oneloa Bay. An excellent hike begins at the beach and leads across the lava formations to the Makaluapuna Point.
