The islands that make up the state of Hawaii are a tropical
pacific island chain. The leeward (southern) coasts are drier and more
desert-like, while the windward (northern) shores are given to rainforests
and heavy surf. The Hawaiian islands are famous for year round warm
temperatures, which differ as little as 5 degrees F from summer to winter,
and for frequent rainfall. The skies are rarely clear in Hawaii, but
the storms don’t last long. Winter is the wettest season, while
fall and summer are quite a bit drier. The mountain
uplands are somewhat cooler than the coasts, but are still pleasant
and green year round. |
