Early western settlers once called the grounds of Piedmont
home, and Franklin D. Roosevelt sought to return the site to its profound
natural state. After widespread destruction followed by abandonment,
the forest is king once again.
Birds and mammals native to the land now flourish under new protection.
The land’s natural beauty can be accessed through long, backwoods
trails or from the safety of your car on scenic drives. The visitors
center provides environmental education to make sure the land has no
more bouts with human development. |
