Blackbeard National Wildlife Refuge

Georgia Home | Georgia Sitemap
Blackbeard was formerly used by the United States Navy as a logging site in a ring of shipbuilders. Since 1940, however, the government has protected the land.

Significant regrowth can be found here, the tall trees seem to be crawling their way back to prominence right before your eyes. Many creeks and marshes line the land, which is easily traversable from the refuge’s delicate footpaths. Several rare birds call the backcountry home, and birdwatchers take full advantage. Fishing is also a popular pastime; fly casters can be seen wading through streams year round.
