The city name of Alpharetta is a variation of a fictional Indian girl, Alfarata, in a 19th century song, The Blue Juniata. The name of the city is also believed to have been derived from the first letter of the Greek alphabet. Selected for its location next to a spring, it began as a campground, and was originally known as New Prospect Camp Ground until late 1858.
Attractions here include the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and Heritage Center, a 46-acre forest which has an abundance of animal life and a scenic creek. There are 1.5 miles of walking trails, picnic areas and historic sites for visitors to enjoy. Other places to visit include Downtown Alpharetta, the North Point Mall, the Branch Library etc. Accommodation here is in plenty ranging from motels to hotels to inns to B&Bs. The Comfort Suites, the Wingate Inn, the Ramada Limited Suites, the Marriott Atlanta etc. are some of the hotels offering excellent service and comfort.
