Once home to a millionaire club of sorts, Jekyll Island
has, like many other islands up the coastline, reverted back to its
former natural splendor. The mansions and summer homes built here still
exist in some numbers, but the prominence of upscale vacationers has
clearly diminished.
The island’s main attraction, its natural beauty, has been reclaimed
by those who appreciate it most. Outdoor adventurers use Jekyll as a
springboard into biking and marshland kayaking, two of its favorite
newfound pastimes. Turtle walks are led during nesting season, when
sea bound babies scurry down to the water.
There are still beautiful resorts and inns to call temporary home, or
you can stay on the mainland, back on the Georgia coastline and commute.
