Summers are extremely hot and humid with heat wave spells lasting days at a time. The city experiences mild-to-cold winters in which there is only occasional snowfall.

The summer temperatures average about 90 degrees F in late July, but often exceed 100 degrees F in the grip of a major heat wave. The highest temperature ever recorded in the city was 105 degrees F.

January is the coldest month in Atlanta, with an average high of 52 degrees F and low of 34 degrees F. The lowest temperature recorded in the city was –9 degrees F (thought this was over a century ago).

Atlanta doesn’t get much snow, but the city receives a good deal of precipitation throughout the year. Average annual rainfall is 50.5 inches.
