This
rare southern metropolis provides fast paced entertainment to
an otherwise plodding American south. The home to big deal business
like Coca Cola and CNN, it has sprawled quickly into national
prominence and metropolis status.
Atlanta’s recently revived downtown is as touristy and clean
as one should expect. The skyscrapers, parks, and various museums
spread out for miles along innocuous city streets. Underground
Atlanta is perhaps a visitor’s best bet to see some of the
city’s personal flair. The buried district has been rethought
and rebuilt in recent years.
Sweet Auburn, Little Five Points, and Buckhead provide alternatives,
boasting a much more youthful and distinct appeal. Colleges and
art museums culture up these areas, offering a nice release from
the downtown wall of buildings. The storied “southern charm”
can be found in yuppie pockets such as Virginia-Highlands.
If corporate posturing proves exhausting, move north to the Appalachians
or east to the Atlantic Coast.
