Florida Keys Weather

The Florida Keys has a subtropical climate; it is the only frost-free place in the state. The Florida Keys climate consists of 2 major "seasons" are the hot, wet, and humid months from about June through October, and the drier, cooler months of November through May.

Florida Keys weather patterns are subject to regular tropical storms and hurricanes. Tropical cyclones are especially dangerous to the Keys because no area of the islands is more than 20 feet above sea level, and several are considerably less. The ocean surrounds the islands, so nearly every neighborhood is in danger of devastating floods and powerful hurricane winds.

Due to the threat of storm surge evacuations to the mainland are routinely ordered when the National Weather Services issues a hurricane watch or severe tropical storm warning. The evacuation of the Florida Keys is dependent on its causeways and the two-lane highway to the mainland.
