The site where this interesting outdoor tourist attraction
now lies was formerly an important site for native settlers. It acted
as a sort of common ground meeting place to exchange, trade and bury
the dead. There are several well-plotted remains that are available
for touring including extensive mounds and a pre-Columbian temple.
Visitors and volunteers are invited to partake in any of the hands-on
activities offered by the park’s archaeological staff. In efforts
to make the history of the Florida land more understood and henceforth
more appreciated, there are interpretive programs for any age or skill
level.
The park is also thoroughly adorned with untouched wildlife. Fishing,
hiking and camping are very popular pastimes here. While getting to
know the history of the land, it is important to be in direct contact
with it. |
