Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge

Florida Home | Florida Sitemap
These twelve islands off Florida’s northern shore have an interesting past, present and presumable future. They have been inhabited, although sparsely, for thousands of years. The natives who once occupied the larger islands eventually gave way to a military hospital. Currently, an old lighthouse built for incoming ships has been transformed into a research a study facility for a nearby college.

Visitors/adventurers can interact slightly with the thorough wildlife on the islands, though most are inaccessible during low tides. The larger of the islands, such as Snake and Seahorse are great for exploration.
