Caloosahatchee National Wildlife Refuge

Florida Home | Florida Sitemap
Only about forty acres make up this refuge, which was established in the 1920’s with the intention of becoming a breeding ground for rare tropical birds. Recently, though, the park’s look has been altered drastically by the developments of man in the region. I-75 passes directly above the site and a large power plant was built on the park’s waters.

Much of the wildlife still exists here, and the power plant’s warm offshoot makes the waters a popular breeding ground for native manatees.
