Just a quick jaunt from the busy nightlife
and neon of Miami is Biscayne National Park. Although much of the Biscayne
community is recognized as a haven of economic elite, this part of the
coastline is mostly a well-preserved habitat.
The land is still very flat here, but the vegetation is very thick.
Inland, you can find dense forests, but the central portion of the park
is Biscayne Bay. This protected inlet is ideal for boating and fishing
and there is a well-established path that makes its way around the lake
on the mainland side. A visitors center has also been placed here, very
close to the blue green water’s edge.
Camping and snorkeling are ingrained pastimes here for families vacationing
from the north. Although there is some weird, unnatural scenery from
out in the bay, including a nuclear plant, a huge landfill and the distant
Miami office buildings, Biscayne is a far cry from civilized. |
