Though Miami has a humid subtropical climate, it does experience cold fronts from November through March. Most of the year is warm, though, and summers are more like a true tropical climate. Miami is rainy in the hot and humid summer and dry in the mild winters. Hurricane season largely coincides with the wet season. The Miami area owes its warm, humid climate to the Gulf Stream, which moderates climate year-round. A typical summer day does not see temperatures below 75 degrees F. During the winter the low humidity makes the temperature drop to between 60 and 40 degrees F. iami’s rainfall is one of the highest among major U.S. cities. It receives annual rainfall of almost 59 inches. Most precipitation occurs from mid-May through early October. Though Miami is, statistically speaking, the most likely major city to be struck by a hurricane in the world, no hurricane has hit the city directly since 1964.
