The Bass Museum of Art in Miami, Florida collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets the visual arts. The museum mounts exhibitions from a permanent collection and displays loan exhibitions from national and international collections. Central to the Bass Museum of Art’s mission are the needs of the region's ethnic communities, students, and the artistic community. The Bass Museum of Art was Miami’s 1st public building with an exhibition space for the fine arts. It was designed to accent the appearance of the beautiful gardens at Collins Park. The museum is now the flagship of the city’s historic district, and was placed on the National Register in 1978. The Bass Museum of Art receives public and private general operating funding. Support for the museum also comes from the City of Miami Beach, with the support of the Mayor and Commissioners of the City of Miami Beach and Friends of the Bass Museum.
