Florida is called the Sunshine State, and with good reason,
as this tropical and subtropical region has plenty of it. Summers statewide
are long and warm (and often downright hot), though very humid. Winters
are mild and dry in southern Florida, but there are occasional incursions
of cold air, especially in the northern panhandle. Coastal sections
of Florida have slightly warmer temperatures in winter and cooler ones
in summer on the average.
The main factors affecting the Florida's climate are its latitude and
its many inland lakes. Florida’s location near the Gulf of Mexico
plays an important role as well, as do the currents of the Atlantic
Ocean also. Tropical storms and hurricanes are the most obvious examples
of the weather extremes the coastal areas are subject to. |
